David Chismark, MD Initiated as a Fellow with the American College of Surgeons
A. David Chismark, MD of Core Physicians, was recently initiated as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons during ceremonies held at the organization’s annual meeting in Chicago, Illinois.
Dr. Chismark was one of 1,259 surgeons from around the world who became Fellows during convocation ceremonies at the College’s 96th Clinical Congress.
“Being recognized as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons is an honor in that it means a surgeon has passed multiple levels of review and meets the stringent standards of the college as well as one’s peers,” Dr. Chismark said. “Patients of Core Physicians should be pleased to know that all of the surgeons in the practice now carry this Fellowship designation because they have met these high standards of surgical excellence and training.”
Dr. Chismark, who has been with Core Physicians for three years, is a graduate of Dartmouth Medical School and completed his surgical residency at Albany Medical Center in Albany, New York and fellowship training in Orlando, Florida. He is board certified in general surgery and colorectal surgery.
In order to apply for the fellowship, Dr. Chismark had to meet extensive criteria established by the College. He had to be a graduate of an approved medical school; must have completed advanced training in one of the 14 surgical specialties recognized by the College; must possess certification by an American surgical specialty board or appropriate certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada; and must have been in practice in the same geographic location for at least one year at the time of his application. Before admission into Fellowship, Dr. Chismark had to further demonstrate ethical fitness and professional proficiency, and his acceptance as a Fellow of the College must be approved by three-fourths of its Board of Regents.
The American College of Surgeons is a scientific and educational organization of surgeons that was founded in 1913 to raise the standards of surgical practice and to improve the care of the surgical patient.
