Better Speech and Hearing

May is “Better Hearing and Speech Month,” and Core Physicians is taking the opportunity to increase awareness about hearing, speech, language, and voice communication impairments. Our speech and language pathologists and audiologists work to prevent, identify, and treat such impairments, and we invite anyone of any age to make an appointment for a hearing exam.

An estimated 28 million Americans have a hearing loss that can be treated, yet only 25% use hearing aids. That is why hearing exams are so important.

Do I Need a Hearing Exam

A good way to determine if you might be experiencing hearing loss is to ask yourself the following questions:

  • Do I frequently ask people to repeat themselves?
  • Do I often turn my ear toward a sound to hear it better?
  • Do I understand people better when I wear my glasses or look directly at their faces?
  • Do I lose my place in group conversations?
  • Do I keep the volume on the radio or TV at a level others say is too loud?
  • Am I experiencing pain or ringing in my ears?
  • Do I have episodes of vertigo or “spinning”?

If you answered yes to any of the above, you may be experiencing a hearing related problem.
