Distinguished Leadership Recognition Award

Thomas Wharton, MD, FACC, Core Physicians, chief of the cardiology section at Exeter Hospital, was recently presented the Distinguished Leadership Recognition award at the American Heart Association’s 15th Annual Heart Ball. Dr. Wharton was presented the award in recognition of his dedication to the science of interventional cardiology and continued dedication in saving lives through research. He is a pioneer in using balloons and stents in treating heart attacks, has promoted a multi-disciplinary “fast-track” system to assure rapid treatment of heart attacks and has pioneered the safe use of percutaneous intervention in hospitals without onsite cardiac surgery back-up.
