Core Physicians, together with its affiliate Exeter Hospital has initiated a new partnership with the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health System to provide expanded vascular services to local patients in the Seacoast region.
In a collaboration that started in early January, physicians from Dartmouth-Hitchcock’s section of vascular surgery have begun working with Core Physicians’ vascular surgery located at Exeter Hospital. Dartmouth-Hitchcock’s physicians are providing additional daytime coverage on weekdays for emergency and elective vascular procedures. The agreement also enables Core Physicians’ vascular physicians to utilize Dartmouth-Hitchcock’s telemedicine capabilities through its Center for Telehealth to provide enhanced consultation, support, and triage for emergent cases during nights and weekends.
“We approached Dartmouth-Hitchcock because we were aware of their excellent vascular surgery services,” said Nicholas Garcia, MD, a Core Physicians’ vascular surgeon. “This innovative and cost-effective model of pooling regional specialists for our on-site vascular service, combined with a virtual telehealth service, enables us to offer the highest quality of care to the community while also remaining a hub for vascular care in the Seacoast.”
Under the direction of Dartmouth-Hitchcock’s vascular surgery Section Chief Dr. Richard J. Powell, the academic medical system is sending vascular surgeons to Exeter Hospital three days a week. Two of the surgeons rotating to Exeter Hospital are from Dartmouth-Hitchcock’s and one is from Elliot Hospital in Manchester, contracted through Dartmouth-Hitchcock.
Working with the Dartmouth-Hitchcock’s Center for Telehealth, Core providers, in collaboration with Dartmouth-Hitchcock’s vascular surgeons, will evaluate patients via real-time video. “By this summer, we anticipate having full on-site coverage for daytime surgery at Exeter Hospital,” says Powell. “And we will continue to cover the emergency room and any in-house consults with our team of 12 Dartmouth-Hitchcock vascular surgeons, utilizing our telehealth capabilities.”
Core Physicians also partners with Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth-Hitchcock (CHaD) to provide local pediatric gastroenterology and cardiology services. Dr. Anthony Repucci, CHaD pediatric gastroenterologist, Dr. Thomas Johnson, CHaD pediatric cardiologist, each see patients at Core Physicians twice monthly.
