Excellence in Pediatric and Adolescent Initiatives

Core Physicians was recently recognized by the state Department of Health and Human Services for an initiative to create a network wide vaccination protocol for children, adolescents and adults.

The 2010 award for Excellence in Pediatric and Adolescent Initiatives was presented to representatives from Core Physicians during a recent awards luncheon. Presenting the award to Core Physicians was New Hampshire’s first lady Susan Lynch, MD, who detailed Core Physicians’ efforts that began with a Protocol Committee working to standardize vaccine management and protocols throughout Core offices. The committee, which included Jennifer Dowling, RN, Debra Uliano, RN, Susan Pelletier, RN, Deborah Aylard, RN, Carol Scoggins, LPN, Susan Swift, LPN and Georgette Verhelle, RN, began by inviting the NH Immunization Program to provide an in-service on vaccines and vaccine storage and handling.

The Protocol Committee members developed an extensive binder that includes the recommended vaccine schedule and all associated information, which was then made available to all Core Physicians’ practices.  The committee looked at which vaccines are required for children entering school.  In addition, they came up with a plan for how to properly store and preserve vaccines in accordance with the State of NH Immunization Program’s guidelines.

“The staff brought a wealth of experience, professionalism and desire on how to improve standards for immunization in their practice and in the family and internal medicine practices affiliated with their company, Core Physicians,” said Marcella J. Bobinsky, the New Hampshire Immunization Programs Manager for the Division of Public Health Services.
