Every breast cancer patient’s journey is unique, and each person’s course of treatment will depend upon a variety of factors including diagnostic data, family history, genetics, and personal health history. Because there is not a one-size-fits-all treatment for breast cancer, having a multi-disciplinary team and approach is crucial.
Exeter Hospital’s Center for Breast Health is accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), the only one in the Seacoast area, bringing a national standard of care to our region.
Our breast cancer care team includes medical and radiation oncologists (from Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center working onsite in Exeter), surgeons, radiologists, pathologists, clinical nurse specialists, and social workers. We have multidisciplinary clinic weekly to see newly diagnosed patients who will meet the surgeon, medical oncologist and radiation oncologist to go over options of treatments and obtain a personalized plan.
Also unique to our practice and approach:
- My clinical and research expertise includes nipple-sparing and skin-sparing mastectomies, and our plastic surgeon offers immediate reconstruction.
- With my background in plastic surgery, I heavily invest in cosmetic outcomes while ensuring oncological safety.
- With my Obstetrics & Gynecology (OBGYN) background, I consider the whole picture. In addition to the breast cancer itself, I take into consideration patients’ fertility, sexual function, and menopausal symptoms.
- Our High Risk Breast Health Program offers comprehensive risk assessment onsite. After the evaluation, we will make comprehensive recommendations for lifestyle to decrease breast cancer risk, as well as recommendations for high-risk screening, chemoprevention, and genetic counseling (through Mass General).
Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer for women in the U.S., aside from skin cancer, and one in eight women will be diagnosed with it in their lifetime. It is a difficult journey in many ways, but we are here to help and support you.
