Nurse Midwives Provide Care for all Life Stages

Core patients have the option of seeing a Certified Nurse Midwife for routine well visits, in addition to care for pregnancy and birth support. For pregnancy and birth, nurse midwives provide a great option for those seeking a natural, relaxed pregnancy and childbirth experience while having the reassurance of added medical interventions as needed.

As nurse midwives, we are present throughout all aspects of pregnancy care – from prenatal visits through labor and childbirth. We provide very hands-on care and may help a woman with position changes, lower back massage, and getting in and out of the tub. We love to show partners how they can help and be involved.

Nurse midwives support all types of labor experiences including both medicated and non-medicated births. Even when a C-section is needed, your nurse midwife is present alongside a physician to help provide care and support.

Additionally, although many people may think that midwives are only for birth and prenatal care, women come to us throughout the life span. In fact, we often see young women for their first gynecological visit, those seeking help with contraception or family planning, and women later in life as they navigate menopause and go through the aging process. It’s exciting to be able to follow women through their lives and provide support during such important moments.

Core’s midwifery group consists of four Certified Nurse Midwives, all located at Core Obstetrics & Gynecology at Exeter Hospital. Patients can select to see a nurse midwife when calling for a well visit or prenatal appointment, or ask at any time during the course of care to see one and learn more.
